Packing Up Your Desktop PC For Servicing

Don't fret if you need to repack your PC for shipping or moving. We've whipped up a guide that's easier than pie to follow! Here's all you need to safely pack your PC, preserving its condition during transit.
Why Should I Carefully Pack My PC?
Your computer houses fragile components that can easily suffer damage during transportation. These can include:
• Loose Components: Components that aren't securely fastened may shake or rattle.
• Sensitive Parts: Your graphics card and motherboard are especially delicate. Their parts can bend or break under pressure.
• Jostling: Even small bumps can cause physical disturbance to your system.
• Incorrect Packaging: Components may scrape or knock against the hardware.
Steps to Safely Pack Your PC:
Grab Your Materials
• Gather everything we'll need to pack up the PC.
• If you no longer have the internal packing material, we recommend bubble wrap as an alternative.
Prepare the PC
• Shut down your PC as you normally would and unplug the black power cable from the power supply.
• Remove the side panel from your PC case. This process will vary depending on your case but typically involves loosening screws or sliding the panel off.
Pack the Internals
• Once the panel is removed, pack the insides with the foam or bubble wrap. If there isn't enough foam, old shirts or towels make good alternatives.
• Pay special attention to the graphics card; ensure there's enough support on all sides to avoid any damage during transit.
Replace the Panel & Box Up the PC
• Once the inside looks well padded, replace the glass panel and tighten all loose screws.
• Put the original plastic wrapper around your PC.
• Mount the large white foam pieces at the top and bottom of your PC, or on the sides depending on your chassis; make sure the foam fits well as they're designed specifically for your case's shape.
• Align the box over your PC, ensuring the large foam parts are to the sides. Carefully turn the box around so the open flap is facing upwards.
• Check that you can comfortably pick the box up using the side handles. If you can't, double-check your foam arrangement and whether you inserted the PC accurately.
• With your strong tape, seal the box's top. For added security, apply two layers of tape. If the bottom doesn't appear sturdy enough, it wouldn't hurt to add an extra tape layer.
